Topo Athletic has the lightest fully waterproof trail running shoe on the market! So how does the Hydroventure appeal to someone who tends to run in a dry and dusty climate?
There are many advantages to having a waterproof running shoe. First, for when the clouds decide to water the Earth. Second, for those runs after the rain falls with monster puddles on the trail. Puddle splashing has never been so fun! Then there are the Ultra river crossings but I haven’t experienced those first hand, yet.
The technology of having a breathable waterproof shoe is pretty awesome. The single-layer laminate eVent upper makes this feature possible. It also has a rock plate which protects your foot from those sharp rocks and roots that can be uncomfortable to run over. This rock plate can also be found in the Runventure.
The comfort of these shoes has me wearing them on most trail runs along with a few road runs. I like that there is a little more cushion then the first generation MT and the rock plate feature is one of my favorite parts. Another interesting fact about the waterproof feature on dry and dusty trails is that it keeps the dirt out. Most of the time I come home with dirt between my toes, but never with the Hydroventures.
National Geographic named the Hydroventure as “Gear of the Year” for Spring/Summer 2016.
